Students for an Orwellian Society

Students for an Orwellian Society:
Students for an Orwellian Society (SOS) is a nationwide student group. Although SOS has always been a nationwide student group, there is evidence to suggest that it first appeared at Columbia University. The mission of SOS is to promote the vision of a society based upon the principles of Ingsoc, first articulated by George Orwell in his prophetic novel, 1984.
War is Peace, kid.

Too bad most people don't know that Orwell was writing in response to creeping increased government powers advocated by socialists.

At the time, though, socialists were more about government takeover of industry, rather than welfare programs, other entitlements, and heavy regulation, so terms shouldn't be confused. The efforts are not dissimiler, and the results over a long-term, unchecked, are probably similar.

Are you suggesting that increasingly centralized media control, Closed Circut Big Brother style survealance, dissolution of due process and privacy is any less threatening when it is applied by capitalists than what orwell was writting about. Do you think Orwell would think to bad that my ideas about those evil socialists are falsely being applied to champion of the common man, President bush?

i think orwell was writing more about the general tendencies of those in power: socialist, capitalist or any -ist one wishes to throw out there.

if the shoe fits...power does not distinguish between the various little battle cries of the above groups. it behaves similarly in all cases. in all cases it pays to know this.
