but at least you don't have a murderer on your chest.

I like the "US/UK flag", the "Gadsen flag", and "Live free or die".

I know you make some awesome Tees, JT. Do you have a repository? Ever considered setting up such a site, making them upon request and selling them for $20 a pop?

You are more limited, but the cost of entry is far smaller with a CafePress account.

Ivan, do you think that Che was a positive or negative force on south american poverty? Bush has murdered far more people than Che.

true that. its funny that people will wear che's image without knowing his story - i wish i had a graphic representation of me!

i don't have a repository, but maybe i should.

cafepress is cool, but since i know how to screenprint(and have a good source for cheap, quality tees), perhaps its better to go my own way - more quality control.

i like the idea of making them on request though - allowing customization of inks and fabric color.

People who wear Che shirts are for the most part completely ignorant about history. That is my main annoyance. You're free to wear a Hitler T-shirt, but that doesn't make you a hip revolutionary. Just an asshole.

Calling Bush a murderer is pretty brain dead. We all know the issues are just a bit more complicated, and for the most part, undecided.

I won't call anyone against bush a terrorist. Any comment about either something bush has done, or any "evil", doesn't warrant comments about genocide or bushitler respectively.

Or, I can continue instead by saying, as a socialist, you have supported the murder of 100 million people.

jt,

i'm sure you could make some good software to simulate the way a graphic would look under different colors on different t-shirts. You could input your design, output fodder for a website showing effectively thousands of shirts, and make nothing physical until somebody buys it.

I highly recommend looking into it. Does photoshop have a good scripting language?

Some members of the insurgency are probably fighting us because they believe it their holy duty. But a better explanation for most of our enemies is that everyone, everywhere in the world believes that "Don't Tread On Me" is their motto, and that they don't see the geopolitics any more than the kids in Red Dawn did, only that they're being occupied.

Do you mean that that Che-shirted people are ignorant of history compared to Ivan, Miguel, oded, hexod.us, josko, Trevor, and Andrew? I may concede the point.

But if you think they're ignorant of history relative to the average person who might make the choice to wear a tee shirt that says "Giddyup" and has a picture of President Bush on it, I think you're severely mistaken.

Not all the tees are good, and some are dumb. The only somewhat pro-bush one I would support (and this goes for most conservative pro-bush t-shirt sites), is the one of mullah bearded saddam overlaid on texas, with the caption “messed with texas”. This is because I find joy and inherent humor in that particular period of Saddam’s life…

Insurgents in Iraq are pissed because someone stopped them from treading on others. "don't brutalize my treading".

I didn't mean to compare "che-shirted" people to others or the mean. They are ignorant if they think che was a noble leader.

But I also think the contributors to this site have a far better understanding of history and current events than the average person. My guess is that this is the case for the plurality of pundit-ish bloggers (not those LJ chatters :-P).

Ignorant philospher Jean-Paul Sartre once called Guevara, "the most complete human being of our age."

And a recent poll found Marx to be the best philosopher ever.

I shit on that idea.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this the view of the same people who said that we would be greated as liberators.

I really thought my Che teeshirt went nicely with my green plaid suit at my xmas party last winter. I can't remember when else I've worn it...

you know what, I shit on most of your 'ideas' Ivan, but first I got to eat a lot of cabbage, you know so its real runny.

Most people that wear Che Guevara shirts unironically can't even decide if it's pronounced "Che" or "Shay." The shirt/poster phenomenon has been relegated to the dustbin of tired college student cliches like Bob Marley, Trainspotting, and Tupac posters.

I like Ivan's Reagan imitation of the Che shirt, and the Planet of the Apes monkey imitation I got him two Christmases ago.

Meanwhile, Sartre said that "complete human being" quote from an uninformed place and time in history, and he was an existentialist. Now the quote has made it to the back of Che biographies to sell books. Like the shirt, the quote is meaningless.

I don't know that much about Che. I haven't seen and been swept up by The Motorcycle Diaries. There is a Che biography out I might buy, but maybe it'd be better to just read the Wikipedia entries and see people duke it out in the discussion section. I'll spend my money on the new Mao biography instead.

IMHO that is the problem with society, namely that we chuck anything that can't be sold on a billboard out as insignificant. The condition of social inequality in south america wont ever be the premise for a hit reality show, but tha doesnt mean that you can dismiss everyone who bears the vangaurd of that strugle as a moron because that look is so 90's. We deride anybody who takes a stance on anything in this country. I am happy to see people wearing reagen shirts, because it means that they care.

In summery Go ahead and hate on Che all you want, but dont assume anything about people by the clothes that they wear, or the struggles that are important to them. There are more than a handfull of people who know all about free markets and still think that Che was a hero.

That's a straw man. Like the "no-WMD=no justification for war".

You take an snippet of an idea, call it the whole, prove it wrong, and claim victory over the whole idea.

If you are trying to say "isn't that the view..." in really saying "the insurgents DON'T actually desire to go back to Baathist rule or an Islamofascist stste", well... you didn't justify why you think the motivations of the insurgents are so pure.

I'm sorry, but the "don't tread on my" idea simply does not map onto people killing civilians uninvolved in the new government by the thousands.
